![]() ![]() In my setup I have some 20-30% flow down my emergency drain as it supplies my refugium, so to keep it quiet I put a durso on it and in case the drain can't handle 100% flow (if the main drain blocked) I fitted a piece of ridged airline pipe to just above the T of the T piece so if the water level reached the breather pipe, the drain would become full syphon and pull much more water than it would as just an open gravity drain. My tank runs 2 drains 'bean animal' style overflow as already suggested (one short full syphon pipe and one emergency drain pipe at the max height I want water in my weir). It will only gravity drain, so if your overflow box is running faster than the pipe can drain it will again cause a flood. A true durso with the T piece and breather hole will also stop noise but won't run as a full syphon. I take it you have done this to stop the gurgle from the open pipe. However in an overflow box you don't want this as if the full syphon pipe drains the box faster than water is getting into it, it will draw air and air lock allowing an over fill situation. What you have set up is basically making your drain run as a full syphon which will allow it to drain faster than if it was just an open pipe. It needs to be made with a T piece like the above picture and a breather hole to prevent an air lock. Your issue here is that is not a 'durso'. Not sure if someone has pointed this out yet, only half read the replies. ![]()
